NETWORK INSTALLATION
When installing a network, it is important to consider several
factors. There are different considerations when installing a new
network from scratch, installing new hardware or software into an
existing network or even replacing users workstations.
- Prerequisites Fulfilled - There are other resources
sometimes needed when installing network hardware or software
such as power requirements and Internet connections. These
vendors need to be contacted during the design process so the
work is completed before the installation of the actual network
hardware or software. A new email server can be useless
without an functioning Internet connection.
- Building Access - There are times when installations
require access to newly acquired buildings or possibly before or
after hours.
- Installation Timelines - It is important to plan out
the timeline for installation to minimize downtime and ensure
all affected parties are aware of the project.
- Network Downtime - Our goal at Intelligent Network
Services, Inc is to create as little network downtime as
possible. Of course it is impossible to have 100% uptime
during every new installation and/or server replacement.
Many of the server migrations we do are after business hours as
to not affect the entire company during business hours.
Internet connection migrations can often be accomplished by
running both connections in parallel during the switchover.
This can ensure no Internet or email downtime.
- User Downtime - Replacing a workstation for a user
can be a lengthy one depending on the amount of applications and
configuration required. Preparing a workstation with all the
necessary applications, printer drivers and configurations will
help minimize or eliminate the users downtime.
